Welcome,
I’ve gone back and forth for at least a couple years on whether I wanted to start a newsletter. I’m still working out what it will contain and how often I’ll be posting. My goal for the time being is monthly. However, nothing is permanent, even the title.
I chose Poetry in Process because I love talking about poetry, what I’m reading, and how it relates to my writing. The word ‘process’… I’m still unsure on. I think about ‘process’, its many definitions, and how they relate to capitalism, a means to an end. Some definitions are antithetical with how I try to create. I don’t see my writing or my poems as an end. I learn to approach my work with no ending in view, no satisfied closure. Sure, poems end physically on the page and a new title begins on the next, but the self on the page passes through rooms of me again and again, long after the poem is finished. All of these ideas are formed here and may change tomorrow. I have to remember even creating is connected to capitalism in some form. I will probably touch on this more at another time.
I’m looking at process as multiplicity, numerous paths within writing and reading. The more you learn about me, the more you’ll hear about my poetry and how I approach creativity using multiplicity. It’s not a defined theory I lay out, but something I’m learning through the process of writing my poems. I see process as many and moving, maybe they converge, maybe they don’t. Maybe the process reveals or stays hidden. All of this is thoughts passing through me.
My hope for this newsletter is to discuss what I’m reading, what I’m thinking about, and what I’m working on. This could be a wide range of topics, not just writing or books. I’ll also share resources, articles, poems, quotes I’m holding close throughout the month.
The more I figure out what this newsletter will be, I hope to build a community. Maybe you will be excited about the books, poetry, and topics I’m reading. I hope you’ll search more from what I share and the authors who created them. I hope you think more about what writing can be, because I’m just one person, one perspective.
All of this is new and transforming.
Thank you for taking the time to visit this space and hear my thoughts.
Thank you for sharing, and introducing me to substack! I look forward to reading & thinking along with you!
